The Girl in the Shoes
More than foot coverings, shoes are an expression of our selves, the demonstration of our attitude, and the outfit of our steps. So this is me, my obsession with footwear, and my love for life.

I set out to get back to running and set a goal of 10 miles per week. The behavior change project started in the middle of winter making it an uphill battle since I prefer running outside. I tried running on the treadmill early on but rarely got past 2 miles. I think it’s safe to say that I hate the treadmill. On days when I could run outside I went farther. A combination of my schedule and cold weather made this a rarity. I did incorporate more workouts from the Nike training club app which I love. I also completed the 10.5 Tough Mudder course and have a 5K (seems like a cakewalk now) planned for May 11th.
What I learned is that, for me at least, there are several factors that influence my workout decisions. Because I prefer running outside, weather can either facilitate or be a barrier exercise. My schedule can also be a barrier as I work and attend school full time. I’m usually tired when I get home so forcing myself to workout really depends on my level of exhaustion at the end of the day. Behavior change is hard, but can be done when barriers are minimized.
